New Winston-Salem Ballpark

New Winston-Salem Ballpark is a stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, that is currently under development. It will be primarily used for baseball, and will be the home field of the Winston-Salem Warthogs minor league baseball team. It is scheduled to open in 2009 and to hold 5,500 people. It will replace Ernie Shore Field. An official name for the ballpark has yet to be chosen, but it is referred to as the “new Winston-Salem ballpark” and “new Warthogs stadium” by the local media.  Although these games are a far cry from a major league game they are still great entertainment for the entire family. The current stadium was named after Ernie Shore, a major league player who led the fund drive for the new ballpark after the original stadium burned down.  Ernie Shore stadium is located near the LVJM Coliseum, The Dixie Classic Fair Grounds, and BB&T Field (formely Groves Stadium).  Once the new baseball stadium is opened Ernie Shore will be used by Wake Forest University.
